An autumn or winter stay at Prato di Sotto can be a great break from the pressures of everyday life. Christmas and New Year can be particularly enjoyable with a log fire to sit around after a morning walk with the dogs, home cooked food (if booked ahead) and many events in the area such as the Winter Jazz festival at Orvieto (Dec 30th to Jan 4th), Italian Nativity scenes and Christmas concerts. The houses and apartments are all centrally heated and have log fires or stoves to keep you warm, and even when it is cold outside, there are plenty of sunny days in the winter months to lift the spirits.
Outside of Christmas and New Year, there is the olive picking season through November and December, some really good antique markets to go to, guided walks available and art history tours can be arranged. The winter months are particularly good for exploring the many art treasures in Umbria, when there are far fewer people around.
